I’ve been writing in one form or another since I was a kid. Poems, short stories, magazine articles, an abandoned sci-fi novel. Anything.

I’ve just always loved writing.

I started blogging properly back in 2003 and have been writing here on WordPress since 2008. I had a few sites before then but nothing that could really be called a proper blog.

I tend to write about a number of topics including writing/blogging itself, social media and tech, often with a philosophical or psychological slant. Recently, I have changed the way (and how I present what) I write while trying to de-focus what I write about, so there’s hopefully something amongst what I do to pique your curiosity.

I’m a firm believer in the open web, in owning and controlling your online identity and content. This means I make a deliberate effort to host as much as possible on my own site. I stopped using Twitter in December 2016 opting instead to write micro-posts here which are now syndicated to Micro.blog.

I like the idea of mixing short and long form posts as not everything needs an essay. Or a title.

I also produce a 'microcast' - a short form podcast with episodes around three minutes in length - which is also hosted here. (This is currently on hiatus due to a throat issue.)

I discovered the IndieWeb movement and have been working on making the blog more of an 'indieweb' property including support for microformats markup and webmentions. This has involved an element of development including the creation of WordPress plugins and other code snippets which can be found on GitHub.

I am learning by doing and you can keep an eye on what I'm up to on the Now page.
